Meet Your Maker Distillery Showcase

Fiore Winery & Distillery was please to support the WTMD’s (89.7 FM Radio) Inaugural Meet Your Maker Distillery Showcase event which was held on Saturday, October 01, 2016 in Towson, MD. The event was sponsored by Canton Crossing Wine & Spirits. With live entertainment provided by the Hollywood Blanks and High & Lonesome.

Attendees were provided a commemorative whisky glass to sample over 45 different hand-crafted spirits, including whiskey, rye, gin, and vodka produced by the following nine Maryland distillers.

  • Blackwater Distilling Company
  • Dragon Distillery
  • Fiore Winery & Distillery
  • Lyon Distilling Company
  • Old Line Spirits
  • Tenth Ward Company
  • The Baltimore Whiskey Company
  • Twin Valley Distillers
  • White Tiger Distillery

Three popular local restaurants were also on hand to participate in the cocktail judging portion of Meet Your Maker.  Each distiller was provided an opportunity to create a cocktail using their spirits and present it to the restaurants.   The blind judging was performed without the restaurants knowing the distillers name – only the spirits and ingredients in the cocktail.  Each participating restaurant committed to selecting at least one cocktail to be featured on their cocktail menu for 3-months.

The participating restaurants were:

  • The Brewers Art
  • Pen and Quill
  • Colette

Representing Fiore Winery & Distillery was Tony Fiore who thought, for a first-time event, it was successfully executed. The music was a bit loud for the venue making discussion about the spirits a bit challenging and keeping folks sober with peanuts & pretzels is probably not a best practice, but most attendees seemed genuinely interested in learning about the spirits being offered.  Tony commented that

“a lot of people really liked the grappa’s (Italian Brandy) but were disappointed that they couldn’t purchase them there – however, after the event a few enthusiasts actually traveled up to the winery to purchase a few bottles”.  Tony further commented that “the potential is there for this to become a really popular event.”
